Important Information about Carisoprodol
Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant and pain reliever prescribed to patients with specific muscle injuries and pain associated with strains, sprains, spasms or other skeletal or muscular injuries. It is not used for general body aches and pains. It works by interrupting the painful sensations caused by nerve impulses that are sent to the brain, thereby blocking pain and discomfort between the nerves and the brain. Also known by its trade name Soma, carisoprodolrelieves pain associated with sprains, strains, spasms, and other muscular and/or skeletal injuries. Developed in the late 1950s as an alternative to meprobamate, a sedative with similar effects but a high risk of abuse and overdose. Carisoprodol was thought to have better muscle relaxing properties, less potential for abuse, and less risk of overdose than meprobamate.
